Welcome to the first article in our “What you type into Google before booking” series — where we tackle the absolute top search, the number-one worry on your list, and the reason some brides (unnecessarily) wake up in a cold sweat.
Does spray tanning stain?
The short answer is yes and no. But the full answer is much more interesting — and to understand it, we need to look behind the scenes of spray tanning (and into the shower).
Spray tanning under the hood — why you look like a bronze Roman goddess right after your treatment
The secret of the premium TanExpert and MineTan solutions I work with at Afterglow studio lies, besides cosmetic and caring ingredients, in two important substances:
- DHA: This colourless, naturally derived ingredient reacts with amino acids in the outer layer of skin, gradually creating a beautiful, natural-looking tan.
- Instant bronzer: A colour guide so I can see where I've already applied the solution for an even tan — and so you see the result straight away.
And here's the key: it's the instant bronzer that can mark light clothing, not the tan itself! The bronzer sits on the surface of your skin until your first shower. After that shower, your white clothes are perfectly safe.
Your first shower
When enough time has passed (we agree this individually based on your skin tone, desired result, and sometimes even where you are in your cycle), you step under a lukewarm shower. The water running off you may look coffee-coloured. Don't panic! Your tan isn't washing down the drain — it's just the instant bronzer.
When the water runs clear, pat yourself dry gently with a towel (don't rub — blot!).
Now you can sleep in white bedding, wrap yourself in silks, and dance all night in a snow-white wedding dress. Your tan is in the outer layer of skin, not on top of it. Nothing will smudge or run in the heat.
Practical tips after your treatment
- Bring loose, dark clothes: Ideally long sleeves and legs. Oversized dark tracksuits are your best friends — they minimise rubbing against the product.
- Skip tight underwear: You can leave without a bra. Bra straps can rub the solution before it's absorbed, leaving unsightly lines on your body.
- Take advantage of Afterglow's privacy: You don't have to rush around town in instant bronzer with no makeup and no bra, worried that rain will ruin your tan. At my studio you park in a quiet spot right at the door — no strangers watching, no risk that a shower will spoil your results.
- Will instant bronzer wash out? Yes, easily. If a little bronzer ends up on tracksuits or bedding (before your first shower) — don't worry. TanExpert and MineTan solutions wash out at 30 or 40 °C.
In summary
Spray tanning isn't wall paint. It needs a little care, but only for the first few hours after leaving the studio, while you wait for your first shower. After that, it's just a beautiful, holiday glow.
If you live around north Kraków (Prądnik Biały and Czerwony, Nowa Huta, Bronowice, Zielonki), it takes about 10–15 minutes to reach me. Forget hunting for parking in a busy city and the stress of walking around in tracksuits in the rain.
